The day opened slowly, in a house wrapped in greenery beside a natural spring-water pool that held the morning perfectly still. We would return to that same house the following day for an intimate after-wedding session, but that first morning simply set the tone: unhurried, gentle, and quietly beautiful.

It began, fittingly, with a morning yoga session that seemed to slow the whole day down. From there we moved into Sebastian’s room, where he prepared with the easy anticipation that always builds before a ceremony — a quiet energy that says everything without a single word.

The Bride Prepares

Meryl, who travelled from the United States for this day, readied herself with a natural, understated elegance that mirrored the landscape around her. Preparation moments like these are among my favourites to photograph, precisely because nobody is performing. A Ceremony Beside the Water

Then, hand in hand, the two of them walked to the town’s central square. Their civil ceremony took place among the trees and beside the fountain of Kria, with the sound of running water threaded through every vow. Friends and close family who had travelled from across the world gathered beneath the greenery to witness it — a genuine meeting of cultures, warm and informal and deeply moving.

As the sun dipped, the celebration settled into a local taverna, where the clarinet of virtuoso Giorgos Magkas carried traditional Greek melodies into the night. It was the perfect close to the day: rooted, joyful, and unmistakably Greek. The music, the food, the laughter of people who had crossed oceans to be there — this is what a wedding is truly about.
