Marina & Grant: Two Days on Milos
Some sessions stay with you long after the shutter stops. Two days on Milos with Marina and Grant, in early July, was one of them.
Day One: A Hidden Beach in the South
We began on a secluded beach on the southern coast of the island, far from the crowds. The kind of place you have to genuinely seek out. White cliffs rising straight out of deep blue water, a quiet cove all to ourselves, and the warm light of late afternoon. This is where Milos reveals itself. There is a sense of privacy and stillness on these remote southern beaches that simply does not exist at the busier, better-known spots. We took our time, moved with the light, and let the session breathe. A few frames even happened in the water, a perspective that adds something genuinely unexpected to a couples gallery.
Day One, Continued: Sunset at a Remote Chapel
As the afternoon turned golden, we made our way to a remote whitewashed chapel to watch the sun go down. Golden fields, the little Cycladic church with its simple crosses, and the sky shifting from gold to deep amber to soft pink. As a Milos photographer, this is my favourite kind of light to photograph in. The warmth wraps around everything. The landscape glows, and the whole island feels like it belongs to the two people standing in front of me. Sunset on Milos, in a spot like this, is genuinely unforgettable.
Day Two: Sunrise at Sarakiniko, a Milos photographer dream
The next morning, we woke before dawn to catch the sunrise at Sarakiniko, the most iconic landscape on the island. Often described as lunar, Sarakiniko is a stretch of smooth, wind-carved white volcanic rock that looks like the surface of the moon meeting the sea. At sunrise, before anyone else arrives, it is completely magical. The soft early light catches the white rock, the shadows stretch long across the ridges, and the whole place feels otherworldly and utterly still. Photographing Marina and Grant there, alone on that landscape as the sun came up, produced some of my favourite images of the entire session.
Waking up early is always worth it on Milos. The light, the emptiness, the quiet. There is nothing else like it.

Planning Your Milos Session
The best times for photography on Milos are the shoulder months of May, June, September, and early October. When the light is beautiful and the island is quieter. July and August are stunning too, though the popular spots require early starts to avoid the crowds, which is exactly why we chose sunrise at Sarakiniko for Marina and Grant.
For elopements and weddings, I always recommend building the day around sunrise and sunset. When the light on Milos is at its most extraordinary.
