This is the film by Cinema of Poetry from a traditional wedding in Karpathos island I covered as a photographer. It took place in the Summer of 2019. (View some photos from it here as well). A film full of emotions, due to the fact that the Bride had lost her father, a couple years back, and the Groom had lost a beloved Uncle, about the same period of time. In Karpathos, the loss of relatives, plays a huge part, even in a happy event, such as a wedding. Therefor, during the festivities, they memorize the loved ones that they have lost. Through mantinades (Traditional improvised couplets). As it’s been explained in the video, this couplets, bring many emotions, tears in the eyes and the feast is more or less, a kind of a memorial as well. This contrast of emotions can be seen throughout the day of the wedding.
The video reminds me a sort of a mini documentary, the way Kostas made it. There are a few mini interviews that will make you feel all the emotions of the couple during the day. Lots of good memories come into my mind while viewing it. I really hope you will enjoy it as much as I did.
