A wedding in Karpathos Island is not just a celebration—it’s a journey through time and tradition. This beautiful island, with its deep-rooted customs and picturesque landscapes, set the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable wedding. The couple, both with Karpathian origins, honored their heritage in every detail of their special day.
The preparations began in two separate villages.
The groom got ready in Lefkos, surrounded by close friends and family. Traditional music filled the air, and emotions ran high as mantinades, the island’s signature poetic verses, were recited. The bride, meanwhile, prepared in Pigadia, Karpathos’ main town. Her family helped her into her gown, and the atmosphere was both joyful and emotional.
The ceremony took place in Mertonas.
A small, beautiful church nestled among lush trees. The setting felt sacred and intimate. As the couple exchanged vows, guests couldn’t hide their tears of joy. The church’s natural surroundings enhanced the emotional impact of the moment, making it feel as though nature itself was part of the blessing.
After the ceremony, the celebration moved to Aperi.
A village known for its stunning views and rich culture. The reception was lively and heartfelt. Guests enjoyed a traditional feast, complete with local dishes and, of course, more mantinades. The music and dancing continued late into the night, blending Greek and Karpathian traditions seamlessly.
The next day, we ventured to Olymbos.
A village known for preserving its ancient customs. The couple explored its narrow, winding streets, posing against colorful houses and ancient stone walls. The energy of the place was palpable, and every corner offered a new photographic opportunity. As the day drew to a close, we climbed to a church perched on a cliff, overlooking the Aegean Sea. There, we captured the couple against the dramatic backdrop of the setting sun.
A wedding in Karpathos Island is truly an experience like no other. It’s a celebration of love, tradition, and the island’s natural beauty.
